Severe Storms in North Central Texas

Chase Recap:

Upper level support was very marginal, but extreme instability and towering cumulus clouds got me to take a trip down towards Wichita Falls in the evening of the 6th to see what could be seen.

The first storms went up southeast of Wichita Falls and fell apart in the warm sector. Strong capping and weak upper levels seemed to suppress larger development.

Another storm went up near Seymour where dewpoints were in the 40’s and surface temps over 100F. I ended up going towards it and observed what seemed like a 2 mile high base on the storm which eventually died as well.

Finally in the evening before sunset storms started to fire closer to Archer City and further south towards Graham and Newcastle. It seems like better upper support must have come in because storms became much more organized into a nice linear/bow segment type severe weather event and even produced some damaging straight line winds west of Jacksboro, TX.

I ended the night with a very picturesque storm front/shelf cloud approaching right at sunset before heading back to Norman as I had to work the next day.
