Easter Sunday 2010 had a slight risk in Illinois. The SPC had outlooked a slight risk with a 5% tornado, 30% hail & wind probabilities.

Departure

I had easter lunch with my mom and then took off, heading towards Western Illinois a little after 12:45 pm Eastern Time. The drive down was pretty uneventful, reaching the El Paso, IL area as a supercell was exploding west of Keokuk, IA. The real monster exploded to the west near Kansas City, but it was too far out of my striking distance.

I positioned myself for an intercept of the cell just north of Macomb, IL. I managed to get into the outflow winds in the video below.

Straight line winds near Macomb, Illinois

I met up with Mike Brady and we went to Buffalo Wild Wings in Macomb. Brandon Sullivan eventually showed up, and we eventually went back to Jesse Risley’s place for the evening.
